When getting your phone screen replaced it is important to know the distinctions between replacement parts, their features, their reliability and their cost. Every screen is not equal and you may want to get a cheaper or more expensive screen based on your plans for the particular phone. Knowing a few terms and what they mean in regards to your particular phone can help you make an informed decision for the repair of your device.
The first touchscreen phones such as the first iPhone featured LCD screen technology. And was used through the iPhone 8, XR, 11 and SE. The displays have been upgraded to OLED in iPhone 11 pro (September 20 2019) models and newer leaving behind the LCD technology. OLED has much better contrast ratio due to each pixel being turned on and off individually resulting in a crisper picture.
Some shops will be unscrupulous and not put OLED on but instead opt for the cheaper LCD screen. This would not be a large concern if it only were a poorer quality but it can actually affect the function of phone. One problem is the refresh rate measured in Hertz that is much lower than the phone was designed for. The difference can also affect the circuits on the motherboard due to the backlight present on an LCD.
Any phone that you just want to trade in or that you only want data off and will not use any further should you get an LCD installed. Even then it is not recommended because of if you want to sell it or pass it to a family member.
Always ask what type of screen will be installed on your phone.
A standard that I always go by is that if a phone was made with an OLED screen on it from the factory I only use a quality OLED replacement. This is of course unless a customer wants specifically a LCD. Further, when it comes to certain phones like the Samsung A series I always try to purchase OEM parts when available. If you need a screen fixed I work on all makes and models including iPhones, Samsung, Motorola, OnePlus, Xaiomi and others.
